“America desperately needs 1 million more construction workers”

The Construction worker shortage has been a highly covered topic, but why the shortage? There are many reasons as to why, but the most glaring, ITS TOUGH WORK for TOUGH PEOPLE, that isnt going to pan out with our future work force and the options that are available to them. The Construction site has long had the mantra that you gotta be tough and have thick skin, you must endure the harsh attitudes and disrespect. Well we disagree with this presupposition, we ALL deserve better. Being the butt of a joke, poked fun at, harassed or hazed can be degrading and disrespectful, and this can tear down the morale of an individual and the productivity of a Team. We are proposing a joint effort to reward individuals who show intentional care and respect to their peers. At Local 528 we have instituted an annual award for the Mentor of the Year, an outstanding member who shows these positive character traits. Through our own self evaluation we as a team decided this level or care and respect shown by these mentors is what our industry needs. To change the “ Construction Culture” this task must be tackled with our industry partners involvement, much like our Mentor of the Year we should reward and recognize……….

Why should i work for you?

Would if im not like everyone else?

Will I be respected at your company?
